Ancelotti Staying In Milan
Thursday, June 5th, 2008A massive gamble on Carlo Ancelotti to become the next Chelsea manager appears to have been foiled after the Italian claimed that he will be staying with Milan. And, after a day of frantic betting activity, his compatriot Roberto Mancini emerged as the favourite to fill the Stamford Bridge vacancy.
Ancelotti had initially been considered a rank outsider for the position but rumours circulated that his name was high on Chelsea’s shortlist. It was even reported that an agreement had been reached between Chelsea and the Italian and the gamble intensified with Ancelotti’s odds plummeting. However, the bubble burst when Chelsea announced that they had not approached the Milan manager and, as a result, the 58-year-old’s odds drifted. The Blues’ official statement said: “Chelsea has not reached agreement with any individual to become manager. Nor have we sought permission from any organisation to talk to their manager.” This is a market punters would be best advised to steer well clear of.
